A Mother's Day Gift.....Part 2
This week we celebrate the birth of our four baby wrens! They appeared with no fanfare (not even a cheep!), so if we hadn't been anxiously awaiting the event and checking every day, we never would have known, except for the continuous trek of the parents on and off the porch to obtain food for the new arrivals! They glide right under the door to the porch (due to a sizeable gap), with their tiny beaks displaying the 'catch' of the moment, another unwanted intruder to our pool area. Since the pool is right outside the porch door they are using, we can watch their incessant journeys as we relax poolside. We worried that they would be frightened by our daily presence, but they seem not to even notice us now, hopping right past us from the feeding ground among the lillies to the open mouths of their offspring! Such a surprise and honor that the pair has chosen OUR porch as a safe haven for their little family! We believe that they must know instinctively that we are their friends and trust us to protect them in their reproductive enterprise, the most important known to the animal (and plant) worlds! Summer certainly has its rewards!

Love it! We had a nest of wrens last year (2 clutches!) that unfortunately built their home in our hanging fuchsia plant! The plant died because it could not be watered without our touching and/or disturbing the nest! We felt it was an equitable trade, however, because we both have black thumbs anyway! They haven't come back this year - at least to that same spot, because we don't have a hanging plant there this year. They were generally OK around us too, but they did get disturbed on occasion, because the nest was by the door where we go in and out with Princess!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I don't have any concrete suggestions for your blog yet, because I have not been able to recreate the blank space problem on my alternate site. You might try posting a question on the "help" site. They are generally very willing to help when they can! Also, I do want to suggest that you change your color scheme in re the print color. It can be very difficult to read in certain lights. Make it either a jet, bold black or a darker shade of blue. Just go to your layout section and edit your choices. Or you could change your background color, though I like the gray. Other than that and the blank space problem, I don't think you have anything else to be concerned about. Your blog is super!
You might find my most recent post fun...however, I always amuse myself more than anyone else! Drop be if you have time! Love ya! Paula
Hi, Paula---I haven't figured out the 'gap' problem yet and did read the help section---saw other posts with the same problem, but no solutions! I'm going to try something else today, but don't have much time to work on this now---on to book 'corrections' before we get another set of them from the 2nd reader! Thanks for your support and interest! Love you, too, Bess
